The smallest of the Asian elephants, the Sumatran elephant is facing serious pressures arising from illegal logging and habitat loss from palm oil plantations. Today (20/6) one male Sumatran elephant found dead by villagers near Desa Petani, sub-district Mandanu, Riau.
The elephant already started to decaying when found but it’s still surrounded by it’s packmates. One elephant even nudges the dead elephant with it’s feet as if trying to wake it up.
With this, there’s total of 13 Sumatran elephant that found dead since January 2012.
